Hokies beat Boston College Eagles

Dad was up this weekend to go to the Boston College verses Virginia Tech football game this Saturday. It was a good game, not great. The Hokies shut out the Eagles, so we had a good time. We sat RIGHT behind the field goal posts. You can see us in the grainy video at the 10-minute mark. Overall, really fun time!

 

Election Notes

I mentioned voting yesterday. Here are the results from the election I voted in.

On other notes about the elections, the Tea Party seems to be able to throw money at its candidates. And they WIN! I think it could go either way in the general. Some, who are crazy and too far right, will rally the dems to come vote. Others will pull their tea party advocates to the polls.

Just Voted

Massachusetts held its state primary elections today. I am just back from the polls. Being a Democrat is a left-leaning state left me with few choices--not that I minded.

"Mass Farms Tour"

So yesterday, Stacey and I rented a car to drive to three different farms. The first was Red Fire Farm, which is the farm where we get our CSA share from. I ran in a 5k Tomato Trot race, while Stacey volunteered for the event.

Next we drove to Tougas Farm to pick peaches. We bought a half bushel (over 70 peaches) to make sauces, jams, and desserts!

Finally, we drove to Eastleigh Farm to get Raw milk. We plan on making butter (Stacey is while I type), which gives butter milk, and then some mozzarella cheese, too.

Happy EASTER!!

 Happy Easter and a Blessed Passover. This is actually the first Easter I can remember NOT attending church. Spiritually it has been different (and difficult at times) this year. Today though, was a GREAT day.

Blue Devils climb that Mountain(eer)

Final Score: Duke 78, WVU 57. The Duke Blue Devils beat the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Semifinal game of the NCAA National Tournament tonight. While you might think I would want the Mountaineers to win, because I grew up in W. Va. my mother went to grad school at Duke. Also my father and brother both went to Va. Tech. So we aren't huge fans of the 'Eers. While I like to see WVU do well, I am glad the Blue Devils pulled out the win. It was a great game by Duke--just too much for WVU.

The next game is the FINALS verse Butler. The Bulldogs knocked off the Spartans of Michigan St earlier in the night. Butler has won 25 straight games. Should be a good match up.

Pap's Back

No the Red Sox closer is not getting off-season surgery on his back. He's back on the team, because he signed a one-year deal with the Sox for 2010. Signing right before salary arbitration. He will earn $9.35 million, but could earn $9.5 million--that's $3 million more than last year's pay.

Manny Delcarmen signed for just under one million ($905k). And Ramon Ramirez for just over one million ($1.155). They also have Daniel Bard, the closer in waiting. We'll see..I like it, but Pap did not have his best year last year. He is strong, and I assume he will bounce back.

Farm Share Pick up

Stacey and I joined a really interesting Farm Share (CSA) this winter. Yes, this winter. That's right, we enjoy farm fresh food in the winter season in Mass. No, not all the produce comes from Mass, but one truck travels from Florida to Mass to collect the week's produce. Then we pick it up at a local bakery.

This week we got carrots, salad greens, head of lettuce, bok choy, fresh parsley, tomatoes, eggplants, onions, beets, new potatoes, apples, and PINK GRAPEFRUIT!! And I used some salad greens, onions, and carrots to make dinner to night. A simple, throw-together buffalo chicken salad. It was delicious.

Just chop up the onions and garlic. Wash the lettuce and carrots, chop and slice. Add all the veggies to a bowl, and mix it with hot sauce, blue cheese dressing, and S/P.

Welcome to Washington, Senator Brown.

In a special election in Massachusetts to replace the late-Senator Ted Kennedy, voters went to the polls last night. In one of the most liberal states in the union (MA), voters decided that something new was more important to them. Replacing the liberal Lion of the Senate will be a little known state senator Scott Brown. He beat Martha Coakley last night.

Personally, I did not really think Coakley was a great candidate. I did not vote for her in the primary elections, but of course, I backed her in this election. It is amazing, the only a year after the last presidential election, you can run on an (empty) platform of "CHANGING Washington" as Brown did. Clearly most voters are not happy with Martha and/or Barack's policies.

I do not think "pushing through" a health care reform bill is the best measure, but now I feel that many good ideas will need to be tabled, as the Democrats last their 60-seat "super majority." Amazing.

Only time will tell.
